Melt Bolt Sensor

MT Style

General description

This style of sensor is designed to sense the temperature of the molten polymer in the high-pressure region of plastics machine cylinders. The sensor is inserted into a threaded hole and forms a metal-to-metal seal against the angular shoulder. It is manufactured with either a flat tip or 3.3mm diameter tip which extends into the molten material and is insulated from the stainless steel bolt.

MTB Style

General description

This style of sensor is designed to sense the temperature of the molten polymer in the high-pressure region of plastics machine cylinders. The sensor is inserted into a threaded hole and forms a metal-to-metal seal against the angular shoulder. It is manufactured with a blade housing the sensor. The rear hex is marked to indicate the position of the blade, which is held in alignment with direction of flow of material whilst the threaded bolt hex is tightened. This construction is much stronger than the MT style above and minimises disturbance to the melt flow.

Sensor types

 Generally type J thermocouple with insulated hot junction

but also available with grounded hot junction and in type K and Pt100.

Thread : Normally UNF-20 but other threads available upon request

Length : standard below hex lengths 3, 4 or 6, others upon request 

Cable Types

            PFA Flat pair (-50 to +250C)           Fibreglass Flat Pair (-50 to +350C)

F/glass + st/st overbraid (-50 to +350C)

Armour over fibreglass (-50 to +350C)

         Note : flat pair only applicable for 2 wire sensors

            Stripped tails       Tails with crimp terminals

        Miniature 2 pin plug (or socket)      Standard 2 pin plug (or socket)

3 pin version of the above connectors can be fitted for Pt100 & Pt1000 sensors

Note : Custom connectors can also be fitted

Options

  The standard glass filled plastic connector is rated to 200-220C

 A higher rated glass filled plastic is available, rated to 350C
